About Reimagining Self
Welcome! Here you are invited to reimagine your life, the things that you yearn for, the things that are challenging you. But we won’t stop at imagining, here you will find research based suggestions that you can try out for yourself to improve your emotional and physical health.
At Reimagining Self, you’ll find a heap of tools and ideas for alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, creating new healthy habits and resolving unhealthy habits, improving relationships, living with ADHD, and more as I have time to create them! Some of these tools come from leading research about habit formation, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness/Meditation and various trauma reprocessing therapies. These are my go-tos.
About You
But first things first, who is this blog for? It’s for those of us who have passion, courage, determination and hope. Those of us who truly believe that we ourselves can make small or large changes in our lives to live more fully and healthily.
This blog is all about helping you make those small and large changes, informing you of the research and evidence-based methods that are proven, along with the methods that seem promising enough to test them out personally. Along the way, I’ll provide you with tools and suggestions to test drive. I encourage you to approach them with open-minded curiosity and to treat them like experiments—giving them a chance to work their magic and seeing for yourself what works best for you.
About Me
As for me, I am a Canadian Registered Professional Counselor and Clinical Counseling Hypnotherapist with thousands of hours working with my clients in private practice. I’ve seen what my clients struggle with and what makes life better for them.
Predating my counseling work are careers as an engineer in the high-tech sector, sea kayak guide, and as a freelance writer in adventure travel and print journalism. Perhaps these seem like a strange mix but it’s my mix of being curious, creative, science-based, adventuresome and fascinated with my fellow humans and the potential that lies within all of us.
I ball all of this up into being a research machine and guinea pig in experimenting and testing what I recommend. Before I suggest that a client rate their mood daily for a month, I first do it myself. Before I talk to them about designing bullet-proof habits, I bullet-proof my own.
I’m not saying I’m perfect. My kids and husband will be happy to tell you otherwise! But I am always making my life, and hopefully those around me, a little bit better. I am NOT a Tony Robbins type. I could probably retreat to live on a mountainside with a small group of family and close friends, grow all our own food and live happily ever after. I like simple. And calm. And easy. I am also really into back and front country adventure. I love my skis, my backpack, my mountain bike. Mostly I love my family and friends.
So I invite you to come along on this ride with me. I’d love to hear from you as well. Let me know in the comments below what challenges you are struggling with and how the things I’m recommending are working for you. I’ll be happy to reply!
Yours in curiosity, health and adventure,
